Welcome to the 2020 season hard to believe its that time again hope you all had a fantastic festive season and a safe new year looking forward to another successful year both on and off the paddock!

Committee

From a committee perspective we have 3 new members on the committee. Jason “Spike” Deans as Director of Rugby, Jade Canavan as Director of Juniors and Kiri Armstrong as Secretory.

Want to say a massive thank you to Veronica van Wyk and Gary Brown for their support and dedication in 2019 look forward to seeing you both down at the Stables in 2020.

To Spike, Jade and Kiri welcome to the team! Director of Facilities (Grounds) is still vacant, if you want to volunteer and join the team please let me know!

Coaching

In the coaching department we have also secured new talent with 2 new coaches joining the team in Luke Shipperley and Matthew Clark.

Luke is originally from Brisbane and has vast experience in coaching from his time back in Brisbane and is looking forward to bringing that knowledge to the stables in 2020. Luke will be supporting the Colts this season as Assistant coach looking to developing the boys into the next generation of Broncos at the stables. He is also the brother of ex Rebels and Queensland Reds player Dom Shipperley.

Matt Clark joins our Coaching staff from Scotland when he arrives in Australia on the 19th February. Matt is currently an Assistant Coach at Cartha Queens Park RFC, Glasgow, National 1 in Scotland.  Matt also assists in the Glasgow Academy as a skills Coach. He will be a Level 3 UKCC Rugby Coach accredited on his arrival and has also done two short internships at both the Rebels and NTT Shining Arcs in Japan who were coached by new NSW coach Rob Penny in 2018. Matt holds a BA (Hons) in Sport Studies from the University of Stirling and was educated at the Top Rugby school in Scotland, Merchiston Castle School. Matt is extremely excited about coming back to Australia and working with his new club. His primary responsibilities will be as 1st Grade backs coach and Head Coach of the 2nd Grade on a full-time basis strengthening the link between the 1s and 2s.

This year has also seen new S&C coach Cassie White join the team. Cassie is an experienced personal trainer with a keen interest in athlete development. She is completing a degree in clinical exercise physiology and since moving to Melbourne in late 2019 has been working with the Melbourne Storm in their recovery program. Cassie is also a health and fitness journalist, and over the past decade has written for the biggest publications in the world.

On behalf of the Broncos Committee, Members and Supporters Welcome to the Stables Luke, Matt and Cassie!

Also want to wish Assistant Coach Simon Fua all the best with his pending trip to NZ as he has been selected to attend the prestigious International Rugby Academy of New Zealand in Palmerston North. He will have the privilege to learn from former All Blacks & other highly successful professional players and coaches at the All Blacks training facility. The High-Performance Coaching Course is held with high prestige amongst the rugby world, fantastic recognition for Simon’s dedications to our great game. On behalf of the Broncos Committee, its members and Supporters all the very best we are so proud and excited for you good luck! Also, special mention to all those that donated to Simon’s cause on the Go Fund Me Page a big thank you from Simon and his family!

Building Upgrades

Tilly and I have a meeting with the Project Managers on Friday 14th February to discuss the current progress looking forward to finalising the timeline and Project Plans. We have conformation that the $300k commitment by the Federal Government has been passed to the Council for the lights upgrade which is a great relief so looking forward to both the Lights and Canteen/BBQ upgrades kicking off in the very near future, will update progress in the March addition. We have also submitted for a State Government Grant ($450k) to have 2 new changing rooms, official’s room and medical room built at the back of the new Canteen along with the Balcony which is long overdue, fingers crossed we get this approved!!!
